As both poet and garden designer, I move between words and plants, each practice informing the lyricism of the other. Each garden unfolds like a poem—waves of plants flowing and morphing, building on adjacent areas, echoing the surrounding landscape. Garden features become verses, each with its own power or quietude, its own part of the story, each connected and deepening in meaning as the whole is revealed. Being in nature, with eyes wide open and hands in the earth, in New England and around the world, transforms me on a daily basis, and informs every word, every poem I write.
